Professor Uma Srivastava is a distinguished academician, researcher, administrator, and educationist with over four decades of experience in teaching, research, academic administration, and institutional leadership. As the Vice Chancellor of Kashi Naresh University, Bhadohi, she brings a wealth of academic expertise and visionary leadership dedicated to promoting excellence in higher education, research, innovation, and societal development.
Before assuming the office of Vice Chancellor, Professor Srivastava served as Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic governance.
Professor Srivastava's research interests encompass Bayesian Statistics, Statistical Inference, Reliability Theory, Change Point Analysis, Shrinkage Estimation, Survival Analysis, and Applied Probability. She has made significant contributions to these fields through original research, particularly in Bayesian estimation under various loss functions, reliability modelling, and statistical decision theory.
A prolific scholar, she has published more than 90 research papers in reputed national and international peer-reviewed journals. She has authored and edited several academic books, contributed chapters to edited volumes, and published more than 15 articles in popular magazines on education, society, and contemporary issues. She also serves as a peer reviewer for several international journals and is an active member of numerous academic and professional organizations.
Professor Srivastava has successfully supervised nine doctoral scholars, contributing significantly to the development of quality research in Statistics. She has mentored numerous postgraduate students and has actively contributed to curriculum design, examination reforms, quality assurance initiatives, and academic policy development.
An internationally recognized scholar, Professor Srivastava has presented research papers and delivered invited lectures at numerous national and international conferences in India and abroad, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. She has delivered more than 50 invited lectures at national conferences and 16 invited lectures at international forums, reflecting her standing as an eminent researcher and speaker in the field of Statistics.
Her academic excellence has been recognized through several prestigious scholarships and honours, including the National Merit Scholarship, State Merit Scholarship, Bursary Scholarship, and Ekikrit Scholarship.
Beyond academics, Professor Srivastava has made notable contributions to social research and public policy. She successfully coordinated two landmark nationwide research projects—"Status of Women in India" and "Status of Girls in Higher Education"—conducted in collaboration with Drishti Stree Adhyayan Prabodhan Kendra. These comprehensive surveys covered institutions across the country, and the findings were submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, contributing valuable insights for educational and social policy formulation.
Throughout her distinguished career, Professor Srivastava has held numerous leadership positions in universities and professional organizations. She has served on statutory bodies, academic councils, management committees, editorial boards, and governing bodies, making significant contributions to institutional governance, policy formulation, research promotion, and quality enhancement in higher education. She is a Life Member of several prestigious professional societies, including the Indian Statistical Association, Indian Mathematical Society, Indian Bayesian Society, Indian Society of Probability and Statistics, International Society of Bayesian Application, Indian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and several other national academic organizations.
